Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... At the Moment.
The creative mastermind could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” Gilligan says. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”
Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed program wrapping up—and the next chapter already in development—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the fan response and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.
Regarding the Overwhelming Viewer Reception
One could easily to get distracted by the rampant praise and online debates surrounding Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.
“The experience is akin to an endless supply of hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's intentional. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever want to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would disappear down and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”
Despite his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.
“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by what people are saying.”
“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.
A Pressing Query: Has the showrunner See the Conclusion of Pluribus?
Considering the writers aren’t being guided by audience theories, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… sort of.
“There are some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” he states. “yet we stand ready to throw out a decent plan for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”
Alternatively, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.
“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”
Alternatively, why mess with the iconic TV endings?
“I want Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.
Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV.
