The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Celebrated for Styling Iconic Acts Like Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary style architect who crafted many legendary styles worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.
Price was best known for his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the pastel suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".
"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."
Price's death comes just weeks after he presented his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.
A Lasting Legacy
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.
A year after graduating, he started his work in menswear at Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His trademark skill to blend tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in shaping form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "true original," according to the British Fashion Council.
By the 1990s, he began working on outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including several ensembles for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.
With a vocation that covered half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in partnership with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
