An analysis titled “Until Harm Stops” submitted FoI requests to children’s services departments across the UK nations.

Statistics from 135 municipal councils revealed that out of 2,335 young people categorized as having been trafficked or believed to be trafficking victims, eight hundred sixty-four (37%) were recorded as vanished.

Overall 141 government bodies replied to inquiries about unaccompanied minor refugees in their care, who amounted to eleven thousand nine hundred ninety-nine children. Of these, one thousand five hundred one (13%) were listed as disappeared.

High Risk for Vulnerable Minors

The study, issued by advocacy groups, warns that these groups are at “very high risk” of vanishing from care.

Several trafficked children in the UK are UK nationals while the remainder are from other countries.

They may have faced either predatory misuse or illegal activities misuse, for example by county lines gangs.

Systemic Shortcomings in Care

Government bodies have a statutory duty to safeguard and support trafficked and unaccompanied children under youth safety systems. Nonetheless, there is no published federal data on the issue.

The latest analysis warns that factors such as insecure immigration status can amplify young people’s vulnerability to continued risk, placing them at serious threat of re-trafficking and continued manipulation.

The report states there is a “continuing and significant failure” in protection and appeals to local authorities and police to make certain following of effective methods.

Lodging Issues
