Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for concerns to be raised about his future after another heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the club's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from above,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and get a victory naturally but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over known failings from his team in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a phase of this nature with outcomes like these.”
He finished, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until it is removed, we'll continue to fight.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to the top, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
