Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Earns a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.
Last October, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the network launched a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often characterized by dark humor, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming appeal.
"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about watching this endearing family navigate their everyday routines.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to evolve comedy past its current sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
What Comes Next
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well catalyze that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to experience the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
